Terms of Service

Last updated: October 22, 2026

01 // Agreement

These Terms govern your use of the SWIRL websites, the web console at swirl.cash, and the public mixing infrastructure reachable through them. By using the console or settling through the pool, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.

02 // What the service is

SWIRL is privacy infrastructure for the Lightning Network: a pooled mixing service reachable through the web console. Deposits enter the pool over BOLT12 offers and unannounced channels; payouts leave in uniform denominations over blinded paths, with an optional submarine-swap exit to layer 1. The pool never closes — your funds mix against its full live depth, not a fixed batch.

03 // Your funds during a mix

While a mix is in flight, funds sit inside the pool under its settlement constructions. What proves they are yours is the receipt credential issued at deposit — not an account, not an identity. We never ask for your keys, your seed phrase, or your name. But the receipt is the only claim on your exit: guard it like a key, because it is one.

04 // No accounts, no recovery

There is no account to recover and no password to reset. Receipts are encrypted client-side under a vault key phrase we never see. If you lose the receipt, the device, and the phrase, no one — including us — can reconstruct your claim. That is not a limitation we can relax; it is the guarantee itself.

05 // Fees

Settlement is charged a service fee configured in basis points (default 50 bps), deducted inside the pool before payouts are cut, and displayed before you start. Network fees — Lightning routing fees and, for loop-out, on-chain miner fees — are inherent to the underlying networks. Fees are never taken outside a settlement you initiated.

06 // Genesis campaign & vSWIRL

The Genesis campaign binds one X account to one seat. vSWIRL is a non-transferable points credential that converts into the genesis allocation by weight at snapshot; it is not SWIRL, not a token, and not a promise of future value. OG seats are capped at 200 and issued by manual review only. Seats earned through spam, Sybil clusters, or fake engagement may be removed at snapshot.

07 // Acceptable use

You may not use the service to defraud others, to facilitate theft, or to violate applicable law in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for understanding the legal status of privacy-enhancing software where you operate. The protocol itself is neutral infrastructure: it has no mechanism to inspect, censor, or reverse settlements.

08 // No warranty

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Privacy guarantees are bounded by the live depth of the pool and by your own operational security; no privacy system offers absolute anonymity. Settlement latency is variable by design. Experimental features ship behind explicit flags and are labeled as such.

09 // Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including lost funds resulting from receipt loss, misconfiguration, or use of experimental features — arising from use of the service.

10 // Changes

Material changes to these Terms are posted on this page with an updated date and announced on @swirlbtc.
